Floods Menace Henan Province

Many rivers in central China's Henan Province are in danger of flooding, as the water in some reservoirs is at dangerous levels, according to sources at the flood control authority of Henan Province.

The province has received heavy rainfall for several days and the floods have inundated 5,800 houses and 86,000 ha.of farmland so far, according to initial statistics. There are no reports of casualties as yet.

Some 118 villages in Pingdingshan City in the province are trapped by rising floodwaters, and in Nanyang City traffic has been paralyzed for the same reason.

Some four million local residents have been mobilized to reinforce dykes and examine dangerous sections of the main embankments.
