Foreign Trade of China's SEZs

Following are facts and figures about foreign trade of China's five special economic zones (SEZ) in the first five months of 2000, provided by the General Administration of Customs:

The Xiamen SEZ: total foreign trade turnover, 2.925 billion U. S. dollars, up 28.8 percent. Exports, 1.793 billion US dollars, up 44.3 percent; Imports, 1.132 billion US dollars, up 10.2 percent.

The Shenzhen SEZ: total foreign trade turnover, 12.166 billion US dollars, up 32.8 percent. Exports, 5.899 billion US dollars, up 25.9 percent; Imports, 6.267 billion US dollars, up 40.0 percent.

The Zhuhai SEZ: total foreign trade turnover, 2.735 billion U. S. dollars, up 42.9 percent. Exports, 1.076 billion US dollars, up 31.7 percent; Imports, 1.658 billion US dollars, up 51.2 percent.

The Shantou SEZ: total foreign trade turnover, 1.638 billion U. S. dollars, up 55.9 percent. Exports, 1.112 billion US dollars, up 190.8 percent; Imports, 526.928 million US dollars, down 21.2 percent.

The Hainan SEZ: total foreign trade volume, 484.514 million U. S. dollars, up 6.2 percent. Exports, 287.959 million US dollars, up 8.9 percent; Imports, 196.555 million US dollars, up 2.4 percent.
