NPC Should Carry out Jiang's Directives: Li Peng
China's top legislator Li Peng said in Beijing Saturday that the National People's Congress (NPC) should earnestly carry out the directives made recently by Chinese President Jiang Zemin.
Jiang has stressed on many occasions that the Communist Party of China should always spearhead the development requirements of China's advanced social productive forces, the progressive course of China's advanced culture and the fundamental interests of the Chinese people.
The NPC, which is China's top legislative body, must have a thorough understanding of Jiang's directives and carry them out in its work, said Li, chairman of the NPC.
It is imperative for the NPC to strengthen its legislation and supervision work, produce laws aimed at protecting and promoting the development of the advanced social productive forces and the progressive course of China's advanced culture, and make the laws truly reflect the fundamental interests of the people.
At Saturday's closing session of the NPC's 16th meeting, Li also stressed that the NPC must fully implement the law legislation, which came into effect July 1.
