HK Youth Share Experience in Visiting Chinese MainlandAn estimated 1,000 members of the 2000 Millenium Chinese History and Culture Educational Tours met here Friday to share their experience during the trips to 22 provinces, cities and autonomous regions of China.The participants voiced their happiness and gratitude to the Chinese History & Culture Educational Foundation for Youth for organizing the event. "I am excited for standing on the Tiananmen Rostrum to witness the flag-raising ceremony and for being met along with 1,000 other members at the Great Hall of People by Chinese Vice-Premier Qian Qichen," said Ben W.C. Chan, chief immigration officer of Hong Kong Immigration Department, who joined the group to Beijing and Guizhou Province. Lee Yu Ming, who joined the group to Shanxi Province, said the tours not only broaden the perspective but also deepen the understanding about the motherland. "Hong Kong youth and the Mainland youth should join hands to make contribution to creating a beautiful future of the motherland, "Lee said. The participants departed for Beijing on June 26 and then visit 22 provinces, cities and autonomous regions of China in 22 groups. They returned to Hong Kong on July 1. This event is conducive to promoting the Hong Kong youth's knowledge of the homeland and the exchange with their contemporaries of the Chinese mainland, said Annie S.C. Wu, chairman of the foundation. In comparison with the previous two years, this year's tours include not only students but also people from government departments, women's groups and other sectors. The foundation has organized visits for more than 5,000 Hong Kong youths to 31 cities, provinces and autonomous regions of China, since it was set up in 1998. |
