Flood Peak Approaches Wuhan, But No Danger Predicted

A flood peak on China's longest river, the Yangtze, is approaching this capital of Hubei Province, but is not expected to put too much pressure on local flood-control facilities.

A result of torrential rain on the upper reaches of the Yangtze, the eastward flood peak has safely passed the Three Gorges Dam site and the dangerous Jingjiang section, according to experts with the Yangtze Water Conservancy Committee.

They predicted that the flood peak, the biggest since this flood season began, would not surpass the warning level when passing through Wuhan, a transportation hub and commercial center in central China with more than seven million residents.
