Canadian Foreign Minister to Visit Japan, China

Canadian Foreign Minister Lloyd Axworthy announced his upcoming visits to Japan and China Friday.

During his two-day stay between July 12 and 13 in Miyazaki, Japan,Axworthy will meet with his counterparts from the G-8 countries on"conflict prevention, arms control and disarmament, terrorism,organized crime as well as the environment," the minister said in a statement.

The G-8 foreign minister meeting will also be devoted to issues "including the Balkans, Africa, the Middle East Peace Process and South Asia," according to the minister.

Axworthy visits China between July 14 and 15, during which he will discuss a wide range of topics, including matters related with the United Nation Security Council.

"Canada and China cooperate on a wide spectrum of global and regional foreign policy issues both bilaterally and within the framework of the United Nations and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations," said the minister.
