Beijing to Host IASIA Annual Conference

The annual conference of the International Association of Schools and Institutes of Administration (IASIA) is to be convened in the Chinese capital July 10-13.

This was announced here today by Zhang Xiuxue, vice president of China's National School of Administration.

It will be the second largest meeting of the world administrative science circle held in China, following the Third World Conference of the IASIA in 1996 which was also hosted by Beijing.

Two hundred and thirty-six representatives from China and other countries and regions will participate in this year's annual conference which will be sponsored by China's National School of Administration with the assistance by the Beijing Municipal School of Administration.

Meeting participants will exchange views on a number of issues concerning the theme of the conference -- "Improving Accountability, Efficiency and Responsiveness in Government: Ideas and Lessons for the New Millennium".

ASIA was founded in 1962 as an arm of the International Institute of Administrative Science (IIAS) and it became an independent organization in 1971. The international body, which is headquartered in Brussels, has over 170 members from over 70 nations.

China's National School of Administration was officially launched in 1994, as part of the government reform in the country.
