Chinese Vice-President Meets Vietnamese Guests
Chinese Vice-President Hu Jintao Friday expressed the hope that China and Vietnam would make joint efforts to push bilateral relations further forward "in the direction of long-term stability, facing the future, good-neighborliness and overall cooperation."
Hu, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, made the remark when meeting with a delegation from the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) led by Nguyen Minh Triet, member of the CPV Central Committee's Political Bureau and secretary of the CPV Ho Chi Minh City Committee.
Hu said that China attaches great importance to its good-neighborly ties of cooperation with Vietnam, and deems it of great practical significance and far-reaching historic significance for both countries to strengthen cooperation and realize common development in the new century.
Hu said that bilateral relations have achieved satisfactory development in the past few years, mentioning in particular that the mapping of the direction for bilateral relations in the new century, agreed between both leaders at the end of last year, headed bilateral relations into a new era.
The two countries formally signed a pact on land demarcation at the end of last year, and at present both sides are striving to complete the demarcation of the Beibu Gulf as soon as possible, he added.
Nguyen agreed that the relations between both parties, both countries and both peoples have been solidifying and progressing, and that exchanges of high-level visits have enhanced understanding and common consensus.
As a vast and heavily-populated country, China has been able to maintain sustained and rapid development, he said, adding that the CPV hopes to learn from China's experience.
