China Launching Children-Song ContestChina is launching a nationwide children-song contest to encourage composers to create more good songs for children in the new century.The promotion of the contest, co-sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Central Committee of the Communist Youth League of China, and Guangming Daily, is unveiled today in Beijing. The deadline for receiving new songs is October 30 this year. The report quotes the director of the contest organizing committee as saying that a total of 36 prizes will be awarded and the top prize winner is expected to receive 30,000 yuan (3,430 U.S. dollars). The prize conferring ceremony will be held in February, 2001 in Beijing. China has been witnessing the shortage of songs specially composed for children in the past years while there are too many songs for adults, especially love songs. |
