"Information Island" Launched at Shekou, Shenzhen

With the launching of "Information Island", and construction being carried out, a highly digitized intellectual information community, as the first of its kind in China, will rise at Shekou, Shenzhen, said General Manager Ding Keyi with Shekou Industrial Co. Ltd.

Shekou Industrial Zone, separated merely by a strip of water with Hong Kong, is an export-oriented economic development zone wholly funded by Hong Kong Investment Group, first launched in China. Years' hard work has now turned Shekou Industrial Co. Ltd. into a large enterprise group with an asset of over ten billion yuan. To meet the challenges of development of a new rising knowledge economy in the Internet era, the company has decided to make full use of all favorable factors available to go in for many a varied hi-tech industrial pursuits especially that of the information industry.

Launching of the project of "Information Island" is aimed at developing a wide range of colorful comprehensive information services, including access to high-speed Internet, interconnection of local networks, virtual communal life, online education, securities and shopping, online entertainment, etc. Meanwhile a comprehensive buildings group of super-modern intelligence will be constructed, including offices, houses, living facilities, providing a high-quality living and working environment. It will also build open software platform and basic data facilities, together with software databank, digital library, multi-media lab, and high-speed cyber system. Once completed, all data will be provided and shared on a communal basis.
