Oil Painting Show Opens in Beijing

The 20th Century Chinese Oil Painting Show opened at the National Art Gallery in downtown Beijing on July 5 featuring a 100-year retrospective of the development of oil painting in the country.

Local artists are celebrating the event with the exhibition and a symposium on oil painting in China, along with the upcoming publication of an album of Chinese oil paintings.

On show are over 400 works by over 270 local artists. Of the artists, the oldest was born in 1869, and the youngest in 1971.

The exhibits, including works of Chinese masters like Xu Beihong and Liu Haishu, were selected by a committee of 27 members from local oil painting circles and schools.

The show is jointly sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, the Chinese Oil Painting Society, and the gallery.
