Shanghai Leukemia Sufferer Draws Public Attention

A Chinese collage student is suffering from leukemia. If he has no money for medical treatments, he will die.

People are trying their best to help Ding Jian, a 20-year-old student in Shanghai-based Fudan University.

In June last year, Ding felt his eyesight was worsening, and medical check-ups have shown that he was suffering from leukemia. Marrow suitable for Ding must be found to save him. After months of search, doctors found that two young people from Taiwan, both aged 21, have marrow matching for Ding.

However, Ding from a common family in Jinhua, east China's Zhejiang Province, is short of 250,000 yuan (about 30,000 U.S. dollars) to undergo operation.

Students and teachers at Fudan University have made donations. Other people have also provided assistance after they learnt Ding' s story from media reports.
