Macao Hosts Forum on Classical Chinese Poetic Form

A three-day international forum on the study of ci, a classical Chinese poetic form popular about 1, 000 years ago, was opened in Macao Thursday at the University of Macao.

Attending the forum are 35 scholars from Canada, the Republic of Korea, Singapore and China's inland areas, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.

The art of ci is a key part of the Chinese culture. It conforms to certain tunes with strict tonal patterns and rhyme schemes in fix numbers of lines and words. It originated in the Tang Dynasty (618-907) and fully developed in the Song Dynasty (960-1279).

Over the past century, several generations of scholars have managed to enrich the study of ci and more scholars around the world are charmed by the poetic treasures.
