APEC Tourism Ministerial Meeting Opened in Seoul

The APEC Tourism ministerial meeting opened in Seoul on July 6.

Our correspondent reported that 300 people, including ministers of tourism from 21 countries and regions, attended the meeting.

President Kim Dae-jung called on Asia-Pacific nations to expand tourism opportunities in North Korea to contribute to regional unity and prosperity.

"I would like to take this opportunity to ask APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) members to broaden people-to-people exchanges and mutual understanding with North Korea, by designating the North as a tourist destination and the object of cooperation," Kim said in his opening address at meeting.
