Wuhan Sets Up China's Largest Electronics Training Base
China's largest training base for professionals of the optical electronics and information industries was officially founded Wednesday in this capital of central China's Hubei Province.
The newly-established Optical Electronics and Information Institute of the Central China Science and Technology University boasts over 1,000 professors and assistant professors.
Members of the institute's board include the university, the Wuhan Office of the Optical Electronics Industrial Base, the Wuhan Institute of Posts and Telecommunications and a research center under the China Shipping Industry Group, all heavyweights in the field of optical electronics.
The founding of the institute is expected to give a further impetus to the city's ambitious plan to build China's largest optical electronics information base, which will raise its output value to 100 billion yuan by the year 2005.
The institute expects to eventually turn out over 500 university graduates, 300 post-graduates and 80 Ph.Ds each year.
