Technology Centers Boom in Pudong

Shanghai has seen an increasing number of technology centers in Pudong New Area.

According to sources with the Commercial and Industrial Administration, there are more than 700 technology research and development institutions in this area. They have become the hottest investment destinations.

Analysts say that there are roughly three types of technology centers in Pudong.

The Zhangjiang High-tech Park is the most concentrated area of government-funded research centers. The Jinqiao Development Zone and the Waigaoqiao Bonded Area focus on foreign-funded technology centers, which have amounted to more than 60. In addition, there are also more than 100 private owned enterprises.

Reportedly, 6% of the profits of the 156 officially recognized high-tech enterprises in Pudong were used on technological research and development last year.
