China, Kazakhstan to Beef Up Efforts Against Evil Forces
China and Kazakhstan agreed in Dushanba Tuesday to strengthen their coordination in fighting against separatism, terrorism and extremism and in warding off external attempts sabotaging peace and stability in the region.

The two countries came to the agreement during a meeting between President Jiang Zemin and Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev, who are here to attend the fifth summit of the " Shanghai Five" nations to be held here Wednesday.

The "Shanghai Five" summit brings together heads of state from China, Tajikistan, Russia, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan to discuss regional and international issues of common concern.

During their meeting, Jiang said he hopes that China and Kazakhstan will come up with more effective measures in their concerted efforts against separatism, terrorism and extremism, and against external forces trying to sabotage peace and stability in the region.

Nazarbayev said his country will actively coordinate and cooperate with China in such efforts.

Jiang told Nazarbayev that Chinese Vice President Hu Jintao will visit Kazakhstan soon for furthering the high-level contacts between the two countries. Nazarbayev expressed welcome to Hu's visit.

Nazarbayev also said that Kazakhstan firmly supports the one- China principle and wishes China greater achievements in the cause of national unification.

Jiang arrived here Monday on a two-day state visit to Tajikistan, the first ever by a Chinese head of state, before the "Shanghai Five" summit.
