Dunhuang Art Exhibition Opens

The Dunhuang Art Exhibition, the largest of its kind in the world, opened in Beijing on July 4 at the Museum of Chinese History, featuring replicas of the Dunhuang caves and original sutras found in the secret Library Cave.

The exhibition, organized by the State Cultural Heritage Administration and the Gansu provincial government, also displays dozens of precious cultural relics and delicate copies of the well- known Dunhuang frescoes.

China has arranged the two-month show to commemorate the centennial of the discovery of the Dunhuang Library Cave.

The exhibits include four full-size replicas of caves at Dunhuang, copies of 30 murals, ten copies of figurines, 14 authentic sutras and ten copies of sutras, six genuine paintings and 44 reproductions, as well as more than 80 photographs of Dunhuang relics preserved both at home and abroad.

Meanwhile, an official website for the exhibition, www. dunhuang2000.com, was initiated this morning, introducing the latest news for the commemoration and the exhibition itself. The website will remain active after the exhibition closes, one of the officials said.
