Internet Promotes Democracy in Chinese Village

A Chinese village has taken advantage of Internet to promote its democracy.

Leaders of the Shuilong Village in the eastern Zhejiang Province recently held a public hearing in which they made a work report and publicized financial accounts. During the hearing, villagers had a chance to question their leaders. The entire proceeding was broadcast live on the net.

Villagers who were unable to attend the meeting still had an opportunity to see the outcome on the computer.

Shuilong has paid attention to developments in information technology and took the lead in Zhejiang in popularizing Internet knowledge among villagers.

Website zjyuhuan.yhtzptzj.cn/shuilong offers an introduction on the village, its political and economic facts and figures, and general information on local enterprises and vegetable bases.
