English-language Police Hotline Opens in Nanjing

The new English emergency police number "110" in Nanjing, capital of east China's Jiangsu Province, rang for the first time in the wee hours of July 1.

Two Iranian sailors dialed 110 to report a dispute over the price of the wine they drank with a Chinese teahouse owner. The officer stationed at the 110 switchboard answered the call in English, local police arrived at the scene within four minutes, and the problem was resolved.

Nanjing, Wuxi and Suzhou in this prosperous province launched the 110 English service on July 1 to provide better service for ever-increasing population of foreign investors and tourists in the cities.
