Iranian President Calls for Solidarity Within Lebanon
Iranian President Mohammad Khatami on Tuesday stressed the importance of national unity and solidarity within Lebanon in the process of reconstruction.
Iran believes solidarity between the people and the government and national unity will help develop the social progress and prosperity of the Lebanese nation, Khatami said in a meeting with former Lebanese parliament speaker Hussein Al-Husseini.
He called on the Lebanese people to coordinate with the government and different Lebanese factions to strengthen solidarity, which he said will have a decisive role in the fate of Lebanon.
On the withdrawal of Israel from South Lebanon in May, Khatami said it is a victory of the Lebanese resistance against Israeli aggression.
All the Lebanese people share the honor of gaining victory over the Israeli regime, who had occupied South Lebanon form more than 20 years, Khatami was quoted by the Islamic Republic News Agency as saying.
The Iranian president also called on Muslim nations in the world to help Lebanon in its reconstruction efforts following the Israeli withdrawal.
"The Islamic Republic of Iran is ready to take part in Lebanon's reconstruction programs," he stressed.
Al-Husseini, who arrived here Monday, appreciated Iran's long-time support for Lebanon's resistance movement against Israeli occupation.
The Lebanese nation will never forget Iran's help, which enabled Lebanon to gain victory over the Israeli regime, he said.
