Taiwan's Issuance of New Banknote Brings No Change to Its Status as Part of China

A spokesman of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council said Tuesday that the issuance of the new version of the banknotes in Taiwan will bring about no change to its status as part of China's territory.

A new version of local currency went into circulation Monday, with a so-called "central bank" replacing the former "Bank of Taiwan" as the issuer.

In his statement, the spokesman emphasized that Taiwan is an inalienable part of the Chinese territory and the new Taiwan dollar is a local currency circulating in the Taiwan region.
