China Firmly Opposes German Human Rights Report

China is firmly opposed to a human rights report recently published by the German government because it "distorts facts" and "makes unjustified accusations about China's human rights situation," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Sun Yuxi said Tuesday.

Sun said at a regular press conference that the Chinese side has taken notice of the human rights report recently published by the German side when asked about his comment on the report at the press conference.

"The report distorts facts and makes unjustified accusations about China's human rights situation," he said. "It constitutes a serious interference in the internal affairs of China, to which the Chinese side expresses its firm opposition."

He stressed that the Chinese Government has made unremitting efforts to promote and protect human rights. As a result, great achievements have been made, as have been universally recognized by the international community.

"We stand for human rights dialog and exchanges on the basis of equality and mutual respect," he said. "But it must be pointed out that interference in other country's internal affairs under the pretext of 'human rights' is a violation of international law and basic norms of governing international relations and is totally unacceptable."
