Three Illegal CD Production Lines Closed Down in Macao

Economic and police authorities of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) government made joint efforts to close down three production lines making pirated optical compact disks.

In a factory, inspectors detected five CD identification codes which coincided with some codes printed on pirated CDs, the Macao Daily News reported Tuesday.

With the aim of distinguishing products from different manufacturers, one CD-making company normally is given only one CD identification code.

The three production lines, worth 12 million patacas (about 1.5 million U.S. dollars), was the biggest piracy case cracked by the local authorities.

The Macao SAR government has exerted more efforts this year to protect intellectual property rights and was moved from the US " Priority Watch List" to the "Watch List" in May.
