Clinton Discusses Three-way Summit with Israel, PalestiniansThe White House on Monday confirmed that President Bill Clinton called Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak and Palestinian President Yasser Arafat earlier in the day, proposing to hold a three-way summit, but no decision had been reached."They talked both substantive issues and about the process of moving forward, but again the president has made no decision," White House National Security Council spokesman P.J. Crowley told reporters. Earlier on Monday, Palestinian officials disclosed in Gaza that the United States had proposed one or two summits with Israel and the Palestinians in July and August to hammer out an accord for a final peace deal in September. The Palestinian officials argued that a summit was doomed to fail without possibility of narrowing gaps between Israel and the Palestinians. |
