Official in Benxi Disciplined for Dereliction of DutyA leading official in Benxi City, in northeast China's Liaoning Province, has been disciplined for dereliction of duty which caused heavy economic losses to the state.Li Zhida, former chairman of the Benxi City Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and former general manager of the Benxi Iron and Steel Company, has been deprived of all his posts as a result, central government officials said Monday in Beijing. Investigations revealed that in his post as the company's general manager, Li approved on several occasions in 1995 huge amounts of unpaid sales to a factory where his son was a special assistant to the factory's director. When the factory declared bankruptcy, several months later, it still owed the company 49.83 million yuan, according to the investigations. The officials, from the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Communist Party of China and the Ministry of Supervision, said that Li had seriously neglected his duties and brought about huge economic losses to the company and the state. All Party and government officials should learn a lesson from Li's case, they noted. In the meantime, Party and government departments at all levels should enhance their supervision of leading officials, and those neglecting their duties should be strictly disciplined, they said. |
