Chinese Railways Move More Passengers, Cargo

Chinese railways transported 515 million passengers during the first half of this year, up 6.5 percent on a yearly basis.

Meanwhile, 810 million tons of cargo were delivered during the period, up five percent from the same period last year, according to the Ministry of Railways.

Total railway earnings hit 53.69 billion yuan during the period, up nine percent.

Ministry officials attributed the growth to the increasing demand for passenger and cargo transport service.

Statistics also show that Chinese trains carried 330 million tons of coal, 30 million tons of fertilizer and 18 million tons of containers in the first half of this year.
