Beijing Sees Steep Rises of Medicine Imports

The last few years have seen a steep increase of imports of foreign medicine in Beijing. This is as shown by medicine imports via Beijing port from US$16.27 million worth in 1994 to US$15 billion worth in 1999, a growth amount to take 4% and 18.2% of the national, respectively.

In the first five months this year, foreign medicine imports have already come to a total of US$55.31million worth, an increase of 8.5% over the same period last year.

Of import increases of foreign medicine, vaccines and mixed medicine for uncertain dosage give the biggest growth. During the first five months this year, imported vaccine for man via Beijing port totals US$ 10.61 million worth, 1.2-time increase; other mixed medicine for uncertain dosage stands at a value of US$ 7.22 million, 1.7-time increase. Antibiotic for certain dosage totals US$ 2.62 million worth, 2.1-time growth; other medicine containing vitamin came to a worth of US$ 1.48 million, 5.3-time increase; vaccine for animals to a value of US$ 1.51 million, 40.2% increase.
