Factory Explosion Kills One in SW China

An explosion which occurred around 19:50 on Monday evening at a factory at Dafeng Town, Xindu County in southwest China's Sichuan Province, killed at least one person and injured a number of others.

A report reaching Chengdu, capital of Sichuan Province, Tuesday quoted local fire-fighting police as saying the impulsion from the blast at the Tiansheng Packaging Materials Co., Ltd. threw a number of cans containing butane out of the firm's workshop, and glasses of buildings nearby were broken into pieces.

A fire that erupted in the three-story workshop following the explosion was extinguished two hours later and a charred body was found at the scene, the report said.

Initial investigation indicates that the blast was caused by two cans containing several hundred kg of butane.

The accident is under further investigation.
