Hainan Closes Soccer Gambling Den

A soccer bar in this capital of China's southernmost province of Hainan has been closed down for allowing people to bet on the European soccer championship.

Five suspected gamblers were apprehended in the Jinri Soccer Bar, when police raided it on June 29. Some 68,600 yuan (about 8, 265 US dollars) of stake money and gambling slips were confiscated.

According to the police investigation, the highest bet on the soccer games was 16,000 yuan. Each of the gamblers will be given 15 days detention and a fine of 3,000 yuan.

Meanwhile, the bar owner is being sought by the police.
