Leading Artist Guan Shanyue Dies
Guan Shanyue, a celebrated contemporary Chinese painting master and educator, died of illness in Beijing at 17:08 July 3. He was 89.
Guan was described as an outstanding member of the Chinese Communist Party, a people's artist and a master of art.
He was a deputy to the National People's Congress. He also served as vice-chairman of the Chinese Artists' Association and chairman of the Guangdong Provincial Artists' Association.
During Guan's illness, Chairman Li Ruihuan of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference made a phone call to him to express his sympathy.
Leading officials from Guan's native province of Guangdong and noted figures from the art circles at home and abroad visited Guan during his hospitalization.
