China's Armed Forces Vow to Improve Ideological and Political Work

The country's armed forces and armed police have vowed to improve their ideological and political work in line with the important speech made by Jiang Zemin, the country's president and chairman of the Central Military Commission.

In his speech to a Communist Party of China (CPC) conference on ideological and political work last week, Jiang, also general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, called for the party to put more emphasis on socialist ideological and political education to ensure that the country's modernization drive is a success.

Officers and men of the armed forces noted that Jiang's speech represents a programmatic document for the party to make a breakthrough in its ideological and political work in the new century.

As a people's army under the CPC's absolute leadership, the armed forces view effective ideological and political work as its cherished tradition, which has enabled it to score one victory after another, they said.

In their study of Jiang's speech, the officers and men also discussed ways and means to further strengthen the ideological and political work in the armed forces.
