CAE Scholars Support Wuhan Optical Electronics Base

A group of academicians from the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) have voiced their support for Wuhan, the provincial capital of Hubei Province to build China's largest optical electronics information base.

Headed by CAE Vice-President Zhu Gaofeng, the group of 15 CAE scholars today concluded a four-day visit to the city.

During the visit, the academicians noted that it is a wise choice for Wuhan to select the optical electronics industry as one of its pillar industries.

As China's major birthplace of the optical electronics industry, Wuhan boasts many advantages, such as state-level research institutes and plenty of skilled people.

It has decided to build itself into China's largest optical electronics information base in the next five to 10 years.

The local government is doing its best to create an entrepreneurial environment akin to that of Silicon Valley in the US, including the establishment of new systems for intellectual property protection, venture capital, stock options and other sectors.
