NPC Chairman Meets Romanian Senate Chairman

NPC Chairman Meets Romanian Senate Chairman
Li Peng, chairman of the Standing Committee of the Chinese National People's Congress (NPC), said Monday that China is willing to further push forward the friendship and cooperation with Romania through joint efforts to make contribution to regional and world peace and stability.

At a meeting with Romanian Senate Chairman Mincea Ionescu- Quintus, Li expressed the belief that Quintus' current visit will play an active role in promoting bilateral ties.

Li voiced satisfaction over the development of the China- Romania relations, which, he noted, have withstood the changes in both the international arena and their respective countries. It is a mature nation-to-nation relationship, Li said, adding that China and Romania are good friends and partners on the basis of equality and mutual trust.

China respects the independence, national sovereignty and territorial integrity of Romania, as well as the development course chosen by the Romanian people themselves, he said.

Li pointed out that parliament relationship constitutes an important part of the China-Romania relations, and that increasing contact and mutual understanding between the NPC and Romania's parliament, both playing an important role in the political lives of their respective countries, will help promote cooperation in all fields.

Quintus said Romania and China are both influential countries in their regions, and enjoy profound friendship and good cooperative ties.

He expressed appreciation over the tremendous economic achievements China has made and the hope that bilateral economic and trade cooperation will be further increased. He also emphasized that Romania will, as always, stick to the one-China policy.
