Efforts in Evacuating Chinese Nationals in Solomons Praised
The Chinese Foreign Ministry held a ceremony Monday, commending companies and individuals for their effort to help evacuate Chinese nationals from the south- pacific country of Solomon Islands.
Following the military conflict in the Solomon Islands on June 5, hundreds of Chinese nationals, including compatriots from Hong Kong and Taiwan, requested help from the motherland to leave the country as soon as possible.
On June 13, the ocean-going freighter "Yangjianghe" belonging to the China International Shipping Corporation evacuated the Chinese nationals to Port Moresby, capital of Papua new Guinea, and a Boeing 777 plane with the China Southern Airlines brought them back to Guangzhou city on June 18.
Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi said at today's ceremony that this evacuation action was carried out under the direct guidance of the Chinese Communist Party Central Committee and the State Council, and fully demonstrated the care from the Party and the government to the overseas Chinese compatriots. The success of this evacuation is also attributed to the joint efforts of relevant departments, Chinese embassies in foreign countries, and overseas representative offices of Chinese companies, he said.
