Chinese Premier Arrives in Luxembourg for Visit
Premier Zhu Rongji arrived in Luxembourg on Monday for an official visit, the third stop on his six-nation European tour.
The Chinese premier said in a written statement issued upon arrival at the airport that the Chinese people admire the achievements in various fields by the Luxembourg people and that China attaches great importance to the stable and lasting friendly relations between the two peoples.
"As a European Union member state, Luxembourg, though small, plays an indispensable role in European affairs," said Premier Zhu who just ended a tour of Germany.
Zhu said that China and Luxembourg have kept frequent exchanges in the sectors of trade, finance and culture in recent years.
The Chinese premier is scheduled to meet and talk with his Luxembourg counterpart Jean-Claude Juncker later on Monday. It will be the fourth official meeting between the premier and the Luxembourg prime minister.
Zhu is the second Chinese premier to have visited Luxembourg. Premier Li Peng paid an official visit to Luxembourg in February 1998.
