China's Water Supply Project to Get Loan From Japan BankA project to divert water from the Zhangjiu River into Kunming city, capital of southwest China's Yunnan Province, will get a loan of 174 million U.S. dollars from a Japanese bank, according to sources from the Kunming city government.The money provided by the Japan Bank for International Cooperation accounts for one-third of the total investment needed for the project. Kunming is one of the 14 Chinese cities suffering from serious water shortages. The city only has a daily water supply of 65,000 tons, with annual per capita water resources averaging 302 cubic meters. The 474 million U.S. dollar project will raise the city's daily water supply by 600,000 tons when completed in 2005. |
