Annan Happy With Hungary's More Cooperation With U.N.

U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan said Saturday that he is happy to see Hungary will strengthen the cooperation with the United Nations and positively participate in peacekeeping activities in some countries and regions.

Annan, who arrived on June 28 for a three-day official visit, made the remarks while meeting with Hungarian President Goncz Arpad.

During the talks, Goncz said that Hungary supported Annan's idea of reforming the United Nations and would continue to join the U.N. peacekeeping activities within its economic abilities.

While staying in Budapest, Annan also held talks with Hungarian Prime Minister Orban Viktor, President of the National Assembly (parliament) Ader Janos and Foreign Minister Martonyi Janos.
