Chinese Premier Meets German President


Chinese Premier and German President Meets in Berlin
Visiting Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji met German Federal President Johannes Rau in Berlin on Saturday and discussed ways of promoting bilateral ties.

The German president welcomed Zhu's visit, saying he believes the Chinese premier's current visit would push the bilateral ties to an all-round development.

Zhu, who arrived in Berlin on Thursday for an official visit, conveyed Chinese President Jiang Zemin's greetings to Rau,saying he had reached common consensus on broad issues with German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder during their talks.

He said they were pleased to see the good development of the Sino-German ties which have great potentials and broad prospects.

Zhu highly valued the German government's stance of adhering to the One-China policy and promoting its relations with China.

He noted the further deepening and expansion of Sino-German cooperation are not only beneficial to fundamental and long-term interests of the two countries, but also to world peace and development.

The German president asked Zhu to convey his greetings to Chinese President Jiang Zemin and briefed the Chinese premier on Germany's developments since its reunification. Zhu briefed the German president on China's political and economic situation as well as the strategy of large-scale development of China's west.
