Ningxia's First Expressway Opens to Traffic

The Yaofu-Yesheng section of the Shizuishan-Zhongning expressway, the first in northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, opened to traffic Friday.

Costing 1.54 billion yuan (185 million U.S. dollars), the 83- kilometer-long section between Yaofu and Yesheng towns was completed 22 months ahead of schedule.

The total length of the expressway connecting Shizuishan City and Zhongning County is 253 kilometers long, so far the largest highway project in this Muslim-inhabited region.

According to the regional communications bureau, the northern section and the southern section of the expressway are now under smooth construction.

The region is also speeding up the construction of another expressway and a second-grade highway.
