Premier Zhu on China's Economic Development

Premier Zhu Rongji pledged in Berlin Friday that with its accession to the World Trade Organization, China will open wider to the outside world.

Delivering a speech at the German Industry and Trade Council, the Chinese premier said China is a responsible country which always keeps its words. After its entry into the WTO, China will fulfill its corresponding obligations, abide by the corresponding rules and further open its markets, he added.

Zhu said China has scored tremendous achievements in reforming state-owned enterprises over the first half of this year.

He believed China's economy will continue to grow on a full scale, and in a more healthy and stable way.

On the strategy of developing western China, the Chinese premier noted China will improve the ecological environment, strengthen the construction of infrastructure facilities and promote the development of education, science and technology in western China.

Zhu, who arrived here Thursday for an official visit to Germany, said China will also make greater strides in economic reform with priorities in the reform of state-owned enterprises. He added that a share-holding system should be implemented in the reforms of the state-owned enterprises.
