China Rearranges Central Media LeadersChina named Tian Congming as president of the official Xinhua News Agency on Friday, following the death of Guo Chaoren, amid exchanges of major cadres among its major media organisations.Tian had served as director of the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television since 1998. Former Xinhua president Guo died on June 15 from an unspecified illness. He was 66 years old. Nan Zhenzhong is named Xinhua's editor-in-chief. Meanwhile, Xu Guangchun replaces Tian as director of the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television, Xinhua said. He was formerly a deputy head of the publicity department of the Communist Party of China's Central Committee. Bai Keming, also a former deputy head of the party's publicity department, becomes director of the People's Daily newspaper, the Communist Party mouthpiece, Xinhua said. Yuan Zhifa becomes editor in chief of the Guangming Daily newspaper, moving from his former position as a deputy editor in chief of the People's Daily. Wang Chen becomes a deputy head of the party's publicity department, Xinhua said. He was formerly editor in chief of Guangming Daily, which is aimed at intellectuals. |
