Flag Raising Ceremony Marks HKSAR's Third Anniversary

Flag Raising Ceremony Marks HKSAR's Third Anniversary
A grand flag raising ceremony was held in Hong Kong Saturday morning to mark the third anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) of China.

Chief Executive Tung Chee Hwa, along with over 1,000 Hong Kong residents from all walks of life, attended the ceremony, which was held at the seafront outside the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center Extension.

At 08:00, the five-star red flag of the People's Republic of China and the bauhinia flag of the HKSAR were hoisted amidst the playing of the Chinese national anthem.

Five helicopters, draping with the Chinese national flag and the HKSAR flag, flew overhead, while some water police boats were sailing past the Victoria Harbor.

Holding a miniature version of the Chinese national flag and the HKSAR flag, an old man named Fung said he felt proud of being Chinese when he saw the flags flying in the air.

Those who attended the ceremony were Jiang Enzhu, director of Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong SAR; Ma Yuzhen, commissioner of the Foreign Ministry in the HKSAR; and Xiong Ziren, commander of the Chinese People's Liberation Army Hong Kong Garrison.
