Beijing Reception Marks Sino-Thai Diplomatic Relations

The Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC) held a reception Friday evening, marking the 25th anniversary of the establishment of Sino-Thai diplomatic relations.

Jiang Zhenghua, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), and former Thai Prime Minister Anand Panyarachun attended the reception.

CPAFFC President Qi Huaiyuan said on the occasion that the two countries are good neighbors, and their peoples have a time- honored friendship, adding that they have trusted each other since the establishment of diplomatic relations, and had cooperation in political, economic, cultural and other areas.

Sino-Thai relations have set a fine example for developing good- neighborliness and mutually beneficial cooperation between countries with different social systems, he said, expressing the belief that such relations will achieve even greater success in the 21st century.

Anand, who serves as a special envoy of the Thai government, told the gathering that bilateral relations have gone well since the forging of diplomatic relations 25 years ago, and the two countries have taken into consideration their shared interests, and had fruitful cooperation in various fields.

He said that growing trade ties and mutual investment will instill new vigor to the further development of Sino-Thai relations. Anand also spoke highly of China's constructive role and responsible attitude in the international arena.
