Exhibition To Show China's Century-Old Oil Painting HistoryAn exhibition on oil paintings created in the past century by major Chinese artists is soon to be held in Beijing, which will show the century-old history of China' s oil painting development.This is the largest oil painting showcase event ever held in China. On display are more than 400 works by over 270 artists, including such renowned ones as Xu Beihong, Liu Haisu and Wu Zuoren, as well as Chinese pioneers in oil painting art like Li Tiefu, Li Shutong and Lin Fengmian. Among the exhibits, about 40 to 50 pieces were provided by overseas art organizations and individual collectors. The exhibition highlights those works with the spirit of times, Chinese characteristics or individual characteristics, which combined Europe's oil painting art with China's traditional culture. Oil painting, symbol of Western drawing, was introduced to China a century ago. Current Chinese oil painting is a produce of the mix of Chinese and Western cultures, according to Zhang Zuying, secretary-general of the organizing committee of the exhibition. Chinese oil painting has arouse worldwide attention as it not only bears heritage of generations but also has developed into a unique art form with characteristics of Chinese nation.
