Chinese Defence Minister Meets Laotian Guests

Defence Minister Chi Haotian met Friday with Duang Chai, chief of the general staff of the Lao People's Army and his party.

Reviewing the development of Sino-Laotian friendship, Chi, also vice-chairman of the Central Military Commission and a State Councilor, said he was deeply impressed by the friendship between the two peoples and their armed forces during his visit to the Laos in 1993.

He said he is satisfied with the current development of Sino- Laotian ties and China is willing to make further efforts to consolidate and develop the Sino-Laotian good-neighborly and friendly relations in the new century.

Leaders of the two governments and armed forces have maintained frequent visits, Chi noted, adding that these visits have deepened the mutual understanding, trust, and friendship between the two countries.

Duang Chai said the Laotian and Chinese peoples have long supported each other.

The Chinese people and armed forces have provided the Laos valuable assistance, which demonstrates the profound friendship between the two countries, he said.

Duang Chai said he believes the friendly cooperation between the two countries and their armed forces will continue to grow.
