Pudong to Host Flower Exposition

Shanghai's Pudong New District will host an international garden and flower exposition between September 20 and October 20.

It will be the largest flower exposition in Shanghai.

Hu Wei, deputy director of the district's Administrative Committee, said 12 million pots of flower will be displayed at the Central Park.

Visitors will be able to see a kind of hydrophyte introduced from the Amazon River, whose leaf will be as large as a table capable of supporting 35 kilograms of goods.

Some 300 kinds of flowers, grass and rocks will also be on display, he said.

Canada and 14 other countries will participate in the Expo. The "Montreal Garden" is under construction in the Central Park.

Thirty-two Chinese cities including Guangzhou, Nanjing and Nanning will attend the exposition. Hong Kong and Macao will have special exhibition areas.

The Central Park occupies 140 hectares and has 200 kinds of plants.
