DPRK, ROK Agree on Separated Family Reunions in AugustDPRK and ROK signed an agreement Friday to arrange reunion for 151 separated family members from each side in August and repatriate long-term prisoners to the North in early September. They also agreed to designate a formal venue for the reunions soon after the prisoners are repatriated to the North. The 151 people from each side will consist of one team leader, 100 family members, 30 accompanying delegates and 20 reporters. They will visit Seoul and Pyongyang Aug. 15-18. The two governments will hand over a list of 200 people prior to the reunions to verify that their family members are still alive. The accord was reached in negotiations by Red Cross representatives of the two sides that began Tuesday. It is one of the early tangible results of the inter-Korean summit, in which top leaders of the two Koreas agreed to address humanitarian issues. |
