Indian Scholar Calls for Re-examination of China PolicyIndia must re-examine its China policy as part of a wider Sino-India understanding since there are no major contradictions between the two countries, a famous Indian scholar said Thursday."India and China have close view points regarding the stability of the region, terrorism and noninterference," said Professor M.D. Nalapat director of the School of Geopolitics Manipal Academy. Nalapat, also former editor-in-chief of Times of India, is visiting Sri Lanka to study the island's long-running ethnic conflicts. The professor said that the consensus was in fact proved when the Chinese embassy was bombed in Belgrade last year as well as on the issue of the World Trade Organization. "The biggest problem with China is our providing shelter to the Dalai Lama and 120,000 Tibetans who do not accept one China" while the Indian government accepts the one China policy and recognizes that one China is the People's Republic of China. Nalapat, who visited China last month, is an organizer of the first India-China Track Dialogue in Manipal scheduled for November 1-4 this year. |
