Motorola to Provide Service in 5 Cities in China

Motorola Inc.'s Network Solutions Sector received a 53 million-US-dollar contract from the Zhejiang Mobile Communications Corp. to deploy a wide-area, 1800-megahertz network in the Zhejiang Province.

The contract also involves China Eastern Communications Co.

In a press release Thursday, the global telecommunications company said it will integrate the services into five cities in the province.

The agreement will extend coverage of the existing Motorola-supplied Global System for Mobile Communication network in Zhejiang to six cities from four.

Five of the six cities in the province will receive the GSM1800 system and will be able to add 800,000 subscribers by year-end to the current capacity of 5.8 million subscribers.

Zhejiang is China's second-largest mobile communications market, with 5.8 million subscribers.
